Working with Problems
MapZ excels at visualizing Zabbix problems, allowing you to quickly identify and respond to issues in your infrastructure.
Problems Tooltip
When a host has an active problem, an indicator will appear on the host node:
- Hover your mouse over the host node to see a tooltip with more information
- The tooltip shows details such as problem description, severity, and duration
Acknowledging Problems
You can acknowledge problems directly from MapZ:
- Click on the problem indicator on the host node (the red circle in the top left) or in the "Problems" section of the sidebar
- Select "Acknowledge Problem"
- A window will appear where you can:
- Add a message about the problem resolution
- Check "Acknowledge" to simply acknowledge the problem
- Check "Acknowledge and close" to both acknowledge and close the problem (if allowed)
Limitations may apply depending on how the Zabbix trigger is configured. Some problems may not allow you to close them directly from MapZ.
Problem Notifications (Popups)
MapZ can display popup notifications when new problems occur:
- Muting Popups: Click on the bell icon to mute popup notifications
- Zoom to Host: Click on the magnifying glass icon in the popup to zoom directly to the affected host on the map
This feature helps you stay informed about new issues without having to constantly check the problem dashboard.
Problems Page
There is now a dedicated Problems page where all Problems can be managed:
- Access it via the Sidebar, then see it under the Settings dropdown
- View all current problems across your infrastructure in one place
- Sort and filter problems by severity, host, and other criteria
Using Objects for Enhanced Visualization
You can add visual elements that aren't directly tied to Zabbix hosts:
- Right-click on the map canvas and select "Add Object"
- Complete the form:
- Name: A descriptive name for the object
- Shape: Choose a shape (circle, square, rectangle, etc.)
- Color: Select a fill color
- Font: Customize the font style and size
- Text: Add text to the object (e.g., a label or description)
- Click "Add Object"
Objects can also have interfaces, allowing you to connect them to hosts. This is useful for representing devices or connections that are not directly monitored by Zabbix.
