How MapZ Started

· One min read

I started MapZ to replace the clunkiness of creating maps in Zabbix. I also liked the way Mikrotik Dude worked, so I wanted to replicate its flow and visuals.

The journey to create MapZ was driven by a clear need for a more intuitive and visually appealing network mapping solution. Traditional network monitoring tools, while powerful, often presented a steep learning curve and lacked the dynamic, interactive visualization capabilities that modern IT environments demand. Zabbix, a robust monitoring system, was excellent for data collection but its map creation process felt cumbersome and static.

Inspired by the simplicity and effectiveness of Mikrotik Dude's network visualization, I envisioned a tool that could seamlessly integrate with Zabbix while offering a superior user experience. The goal was to empower users to quickly design, deploy, and interact with network maps that truly reflect their infrastructure, making troubleshooting and monitoring more efficient and enjoyable. MapZ aims to bridge this gap, providing a fluid and responsive interface for visualizing complex network topologies, ultimately simplifying the lives of network administrators and IT professionals.
